Gas/Fines have got to go

Since I was a young man, I've been a bicycle commuter. I did it at first for economic reasons, but later because I found it invigorating and at the same time relaxing. Today, with many years on the road, I still think of the experiences I've enjoyed , and also the the friendship of people I wouldn't have met otherwise.

As the people around me complain about th price of gas ( and it's always news to me ) , I'm amused to briefly realize that I have none of there concerns regarding fuel costs. I am aware of many list items that can cause me anxiety but it's never gasoline.

I'd love to point out statistics here that prove the production of oil is completely futile in the end game, but readers can look that up themselves with the advent of the internet. What we need to do, as a species, is use the smarts we were given and look back 50 years, and then look forward 50 years.  When energy is less easily extractable,  corporations will put the cost on us. What interest should an oil company have in free and  endless energy,  like solar, tidal, or thermal? None! As long as big business has the elected peoples attention - which they will until the populace changes that - what do we think would change?

Motoring/driving has become a cash cow for most governments. Do you remember, some years ago, when the enforcement of traffic laws were in place to save lives and reduce injury?. In short, the system was about safety and deterrents, not about making money to fund the local or states/provincial governments. What we have now is a system that tolerates law breaking until the coffers are low, then, when needed, go out in force and rake in the dough with tickets and enforcement.

This Draconion shit favours the cyclist because we're hard to monitor and impossible to fine. We enjoy a level of acceptance or tolerance that motorists don't.  In short, we skirt most of the laws entailed in the motor vehicle act.

Cyclist get slack because the powers that we elect, and their underlings are of the mind we have no significance.  But beware. There is a force amassing out there that will call for a reckoning one day.  When all the autos do the right thing, and you have no revenue for misdeeds, where will your money come from?

Viva velorution!. But while that's happening, lets reduce government powers , and hold then more accountable. Not just now or then, but aways and forever.

The next time you vote locally, remember you're the government.  Not the people you elect. They are there to do what you wish...And if they don't remove them. If you have no system in place to remove them.  get one. Removing an elected official is more important than electing one. Remember that! If you have anything to contribute to the democratic process its that you can get rid of a person spouting shit and promises faster than you can vote that person in.
